Mathematical Simulation of Log Cross Sections Based on the Results of their Scanning

Two approaches to the analytical model building of envelope curves describing contours of log cross sections based on the results of their longitudinal scanning are examined. It was determined that simulation of contour by Fourier trigonometric polynomial is an effective method which can be used in practice for development of appropriate mathematical model of the log. The algorithm that requires insertion of excess option with further minimization of cross section area was used to find the optimal model of contour. The method for effective prediction of real volume yield of lumber and choice of rational methods of log sawing with taking into account sawn timber specification is proposed.
