VERTICAL DISTRIBUTION OF 137CS TOTAL ACTIVITY IN FOREST SOILS OF UKRAINIAN POLISSYA

Abstract


The research results on the distribution of 137Cs total activity in sod-podzolic forest soils in Ukrainian Polissya are given. The research was conducted in the typical for this region forest vegetation conditions such as wet pine forests, fairly infertile site types, and fairly fertile site types. Maximum 137Cs specific activity is observed in partially decomposed and in decomposed layers of forest floor. The highest 137Cs total activity is concentrated in 4-cm layer of the humus-alluvial horizon of a mineral soil part. The less 137Cs total activity is observed in the forest floor of wet fairly fertile site types and it makes 1.7 % of the total activity of the soil profile.
